Creative Outlets are Essential for All of Us

In my day job I teach science and health to ninth graders. I began making jewelry in 2010 which serves both as a creative outlet and as a means of maintaining my sanity.

I am self-taught and enjoy experimenting with a variety of gemstones and metal. The direction I go in terms of color and style is often dictated by my mood at the time. As a result I never know how a piece will turn out when I sit down to work. I’ll have an idea in my head but as I work the color, texture, and character of the stones often lead to a design very different from what I had imagined – usually better!
